The 2013 Draft

Here are the Baalke’s picks from the 2013 NFL Draft:

Round 1: Pick 18: S Eric Reid, LSU

Round 2: Pick 40: DE Tank Carradine, Florida St.

Round 2: Pick 55: TE Vance McDonald, Rice

Round 3: Pick 88: DE Corey Lemonier, Auburn

Round 4: Pick 131: RB Marcus Lattimore, South Carolina

Round 5: Pick 157: DE Quinton Dial

Round 6: Pick 180: LB Nick Moody, Florida St.

Round 7: Pick 237: QB B.J. Daniels, South Florida

Round 7: Pick 246: OL Carter Bykowski, Iowa St.

Round 7: Pick 252: DB Marcus Cooper, Rutgers

Round 1: Pick 18: S Eric Reid, LSU

Reid was a pick that Baalke coveted after the departure of S Dashon Goldson. He traded up for the LSU safety and it was a move that many had expected. The ex-LSU safety was fantastic in his first season earning Pro-Bowl honors.

He’s had concussion issues since the first season, but he’s been a solid safety and hopefully will continue to be a part of the 49ers.

Grade: A

Round 2: Pick 40: DE Tank Carradine, Florida St.

Playing out of position for the majority of his career, Carradine was never able to get away. He transitioned into a stand up pass rusher this past season but still couldn’t get the results that was expected.

He’ll continue to be a backup or additional depth for the 49ers or another team.

Grade: C

Round 2: Pick 55: TE Vance McDonald, Rice

McDonald, at the time of his draft pick, would be considered a reach. He has continually improved his game, which earned him a contract extension.

He’ll most likely be the starter going forward for the 49ers. McDonald is no Gronkowski, but he’s definitely emerged as of late, and will look to improve this upcoming season.

Grade: B

Round 3: Pick 88: DE Corey Lemonier, Auburn

Another Baalke selection that could never get going, Lemonier is no longer with the 49ers. He’s bounced around the league and is with the Jets now.

He adds to the list of third round misses by Trent Baalke.

Grade: D

Round 4: Pick 131: RB Marcus Lattimore, South Carolina

The captain of the “All-ACL” team, Lattimore was a talented rusher at South Carolina, with a long injury history. He came into the league with a torn ACL and eventually retired.

One of Baalke’s worst picks, knowing the injury history of Lattimore, he still chose to take him in the fourth round.

Grade: F

Round 5: Pick 157: DE Quinton Dial

Coming out of Alabama, Dial has been solid depth for the 49ers along the defensive line. He’s been a good backup player who’s filled in when necessary. Over the past four seasons, he’s had a 126 tackles and 4.5 sacks.

Great find by Baalke in the fifth round — a round where he’s continually found good defensive line talent.

Grade: C

Round 6: Pick 180: LB Nick Moody, Florida St.

Moody, a rotational player for his career with the 49ers, eventually was released and has bounced around the league.

Many thought he’d be able to step in after injuries/retirements to LB Patrick Willis, but he wasn’t able to fill his shoes.

Grade: D

Round 7: Pick 237: QB B.J. Daniels, South Florida

He’s currently a wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons. Says it all.

Grade: F

Round 7: Pick 246: OL Carter Bykowski, Iowa St.

Didn’t appear in any games with the 49ers, currently with the Atlanta Falcons.

Grade: F

Round 7: Pick 252: DB Marcus Cooper, Rutgers

Didn’t make the final roster cuts in 2013, but has found a good home in Arizona this past season.

Grade: F

Overall 2013 Draft Grade: C-
