No. 3: Wide Receiver Alshon Jeffery

If the 49ers truly want to splurge at wide receiver, going after Chicago Bears wideout Alshon Jeffery is probably what they’ll do.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Jeffery would immediate be San Francisco’s best receiver if signed. And he’d be the perfect red-zone complement to the incumbent No. 1 wideout, Torrey Smith.

Benjamit Allbright of Denver’s 1340 AM reported the 49ers would be “making a serious run” at Jeffery this offseason:

On paper, it sounds good. Jeffery is surely an immense talent.

But there are some troubling things to consider. First, his four-game PED suspension last year has to be factored into the equation. And the fact Jeffery hasn’t had a 1,000-yard season since 2014 should leave some fans scratching their heads.

Then again, no one on the Niners has come close to 1,000 receiving yards over the last two years either.
