No. 6: Defensive Tackle Dontari Poe

The Kansas City Chiefs are going to have to let veteran defensive tackle Dontari Poe walk in free agency this offseason.

At 26 years old, Poe is entering the prime of his career. The only determining factor is placing him somewhere along San Francisco’s defensive line.

Poe is a natural nose tackle, as his 6-foot-3, 346-pound frame would suggest. Yes, the Niners just added former Miami Dolphins nose tackle Earl Mitchell earlier this offseason. But it’s possible San Francisco kicks Mitchell out to one of the other interior roles.

If this was the case, Poe would be both a run-stuffing DT and someone capable of creating an interior pass rush.

Forbes’ Vincent Frank thinks it’s a good idea too:

Sure, Poe won’t come cheap. But just imagine how much better the 49ers defensive line would be with his presence.
