No. 8: Tight End Martellus Bennett

Yes, the 49ers locked up tight ends Vance McDoanld and Garrett Celek last season. And yet they could still use a substantial upgrade here as well.

New England Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett is going to test the free-agent waters this offseason, and it’s hard to say whether or not the Pats will bring him back.

A lot depends on how they feel about a healthy Rob Gronkowski on the roster, which could make Bennett expendable. Especially considering the price.

Regardless, the 29-year-old Bennett would be an immediate upgrade for anything the 49ers had in the receiving game in 2017.

Plus, adding someone with a little bit of Super Bowl-winning experience might help out a growing Niners team in need of veteran prowess.

Even if Bennett has a unique personality.
