Jets vs. 49ers: Previewing Week 14 for San Francisco
By Peter Panacy
Quarterback Comparison
The 49ers will roll with quarterback Colin Kaepernick once more after he was benched in favor of backup QB Blaine Gabbert in the tail half of last week’s loss in Chicago.
On the flip side, the Jets aren’t going to stick with Bryce Petty under center after he relieved quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Bryce Petty
New York has smartly elected to view its future options, so starting Petty makes sense. The Jets’ fourth-round pick from the 2015 NFL Draft owns a 54.2 completion percentage on the season and managed to go 11-of-25 in relief of Fitzpatrick last week hosting the Colts.
Petty did have some decent throws, and his arm is surely capable of making the deep pass. But his 59.8 passer rating on the year does anything but suggest he’ll be a notable force to watch down the stretch.
Colin Kaepernick
Kaepernick might just want to forget last week ever happened.
Amid the snow, Kap went just 1-of-5 for four yards and was sacked five times. Yes, you read that right — Kaepernick had more sacks than passing yards. No wonder he was benched.
This certainly dampened any hopes Kaepernick was on the ascent, following notably solid performances over the prior four weeks.
It will be interesting to see how he bounces back after such an ugly effort, especially with a significant question looming on the horizon.
