Week 14 by the Numbers

As bad as the Niners have been this season, the Jets aren’t far behind in overall terms of NFL ineptitude.

2016 was supposed to be a season in which New York built upon momentum gained from last season. And nothing sort has happened. The quarterback situation is a mess, and once-starting QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has been benched in favor of second-year pro Bryce Petty.

Offensive woes have been at the heart of the Jets’ problems this season. Through 13 weeks, New York is ranked 29th in the league with 209 points and 24th with 3,936 all-purpose yards.

In comparison, the 49ers enter this game at No. 25 and No. 30 in each respective category.

Running back Matt Forte hasn’t quite been the same kind of runner he was with the Chicago Bears and is averaging just 3.7 yards per carry on the season.

Defensively, the Jets front seven has managed to earn the fourth-best run-stopping accolades in the league, but this is negated by a weak pass defense. Cornerback Darrelle Revis is a shell of his former self.

And key season-ending injuries to players like center Nick Mangold (ankle), offensive tackle Ryan Clady (shoulder) and wide receiver Eric Decker (shoulder) have compounded the issues head coach Todd Bowles has had to face this year.
