No. 1 Wide Receiver

V1.0 Assessment:

Starter: Torrey Smith

Backup: Eric Rogers

V2.0 Assessment:

Starter: Torrey Smith

Backup: Quinton Patton

Wide receiver Quinton Patton might have had an inconsistent start to his pro career, since being selected in Round 4 of the 2013 NFL Draft, and his OTA and minicamp sessions weren’t much better.

But Patton has looked good in training camp thus far, and he’s actually performing well enough to suggest he’s very worried about losing his roster spot to one of the younger Niners wideouts.

Given how fluid San Francisco’s situation is at this position though, Patton’s hold on any spot is about as tenuous as it gets. The one thing he does have going for him is NFL experience — something the vast majority of 49ers receivers can’t boast.

Patton holds down the job, for now.
