49ers Training Camp: Early Stock Watch for San Francisco
By Peter Panacy
Defensive Tackle Quinton Dial
With Ian Williams out for the season, one thought would be sliding defensive tackle Quinton Dial over to the nose tackle position.
And yet defensive tackle Mike Purcell seems to be taking over this position battle, as noted on the previous slide.
It’s not necessarily a knock against Dial and, as Ryan Sakamoto of NinerFans.com pointed out, the 49ers may be looking to put the former fifth-round draft pick into more of a defensive end role anyway:
Dial’s playing time may end up being limited though, especially if rookie DE DeForest Buckner continues his ascent and second-year pro Arik Armstead (we’ll get to both shortly) stays as strong as he’s been in camp.
For now, Dial’s stock is staying even. He’s a nice option to have along the defensive line and can play the nose or at either end.
Stock: Even
Next: Defensive End DeForest Buckner
