49ers Training Camp: Early Stock Watch for San Francisco
By Peter Panacy
Wide Receiver Aaron Burbridge
While veteran wideout Jerome Simpson is making strides in camp, rookie receiver Aaron Burbridge hasn’t exactly done much.
At least according to Ryan Sakamoto of NinerFans.com:
OK, so this doesn’t tell us that much. Burbridge isn’t going to be featured on a lot of first-team reps. At least not yet.
Ideally, the 49ers would like their sixth-round pick to emerge as a legitimate receiving option this season and to utilize his strength and excellent hands to act as an underneath target, while speedsters like Ellington and Torrey Smith take coverage deep.
There isn’t exactly a lot of media coverage thus far on Burbridge, but that’s not exactly a good thing when one considers how open this position is for competition.
On the plus side, Burbridge hasn’t been getting his name in the camp reports for the wrong reasons either.
But with so many receivers vying for playing time, the former Michigan State product hasn’t done much of anything to separate himself from the herd.
