49ers Training Camp: Early Stock Watch for San Francisco
By Peter Panacy
Cornerback Rashard Robinson
As a rookie, cornerback Rashard Robinson probably isn’t expected to be overly refined and pro ready.
And his collegiate suspension and dismissal from Louisiana State doesn’t help matters either.
The 6-foot-1, 177-pound Robinson also could stand to add a few pounds of muscle in order to handle NFL-level receivers at this level, but he also has to fine tune his game in order to cut it on the regular-season roster.
Grant Cohn of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat had this to say on Day 3 of training camp:
"[Robinson] gave receivers too much cushion most of practice. Got beat once by Eric Rogers who was running a deep hook route, once Aaron Burbridge who was running a slant and once by DeAndrew White who also was running a slant. At one point during practice defensive backs coach Jeff Hafley walked over to Robinson to say something to him. Robinson seemed to blow him off and walk away."
Robinson’s attitude and dedication to his craft has been questioned long before the NFL Draft, so it’s not surprising to see any sort of disagreement between the rookie corner and defensive backs coach Jeff Hafley.
Still, the early signs from Robinson aren’t particularly inspiring. And with plenty of young defensive backs vying for playing time, Robinson can’t afford to fall far behind.
