Carlos Hyde

Hyde should be fully healthy from his season-ending foot injury a year ago and should be primed to perform during this camp.

Back in May, Kelly was asked on KNBR radio about Hyde’s status at the time (h/t David Fucillo of Niners Nation).

"Carlos is a stud. He’s been full-go since we started in the beginning of April. Participated in everything. And he’s as advertised. To have someone that size that is that agile, has that vision, it’s really impressive to see him work every day. There have been no restrictions on him at all. He’s full clear, 100 percent, and he’s going. He’s really good, we’re really excited about him."

We all know how good Hyde is. But the question remains — can he stay healthy? He has only played in 21 out of a possible 32 games since he entered the league. There is good depth behind him — DuJuan Harris, Shaun Draughn, Kendall Gaskins, Mike Davis and Kelvin Taylor. Hyde is the clear No. 1 back, but each of these guys bring a different dimension to the position and to the offense.

As former Niner Noise writer Jerod Brown notes, it is very hard to see Hyde not having a great year:

Hyde has the power which Kelly likes, and he is an ideal fit for his inside-zone power blocking scheme. Provided he can stay healthy, Hyde should easily surpass 1000-plus rushing yards and five-plus rushing touchdowns in 2016.

Hyde will be very motivated in camp to show he is healthy, and with a revamped offensive line, he will do big things in camp to show why he is the No. 1 back. If he can show any hand skills in the passing game, that will be another bonus (he has just 23 career receptions in his two seasons).
