Running Back

Carlos Hyde, DuJuan Harris, Kelvin Taylor

Players Cut: Mike Davis, Shaun Draughn, Kendall Gaskins

Carlos Hyde is the bona fide No. 1 ball-carrier for the 49ers in 2016. There isn’t any doubting that. But who backs him up is another question.

The 49ers re-signed journeymen backs DuJuan Harris and Shaun Draughn during the offseason to supply depth. Harris seems to be the better option out of the two, but let’s go ahead and assume San Francisco keeps the former on the roster.

And the Niners will want to see what rookie tailback Kelvin Taylor has to offer as well.

All this likely means second-year pro Mike Davis will be pushed out of the picture — not a big surprise, considering Davis averaged a mere 1.7 yards per carry in limited action last season.

It’s not exactly fair, as Davis suffered a major hand injury that cut his rookie campaign short, but the 49ers will want adequate production behind Hyde.

Davis has yet to prove he can supply that.
