No. 10: The 2014 Niners

Now, I know what you’re thinking. The 2014 Niners weren’t that bad, right?

Wrong.

The 2014 Niners were, by far, the most disappointing 49ers team of the last 10 years. Why, you ask? Let me explain.

Injury Bug

The 2014 Niners went through a horrendous offseason, as talked about earlier, but they were extremely talented. Unfortunately for the Niners though, they were hit with a rash of injuries on top of all the Harbaugh-Baalke drama.

All told, the 49ers had 15 players on injured reserve by the end of the 2014 season. Unless you’re the 2010 Green Bay Packers, winning a Super Bowl is out of the question with that many injuries.

Harbaugh’s Feud with Baalke

Let’s face it, Harbaugh and Baalke were destined to part ways eventually, mostly due to Harbaugh’s tough personality to handle, but did it happen quicker than it should have?

I would say yes, because Harbaugh still had a full year remaining on his contract when he and the Niners front office parted ways.

It took a special coach, and a special organization, to keep the 2014 Niners out of the playoffs that year. Even worse, Harbaugh’s tenure ended without a Super Bowl championship.

Bottom Line

Harbaugh and his staff were supposed to bring a title to the Bay Area for the first time since 1995. Failing to do this, especially when you consider the previous three season’s successes, is the reason that 2014’s Niners come in at No. 10 on this list.
