Running Back

RB No. 1: Carlos Hyde

There isn’t much of an argument here. Running back Carlos Hyde will be the No. 1 tailback in 2017, barring any sort of extraneous circumstances or unforeseen long-term injury.

Hyde should be the bell cow of San Francisco’s offense and will be a primary factor in head coach Chip Kelly’s inside-zone scheme.

Fans are still waiting for the true breakout year from Hyde. In 2014, Hyde was overshadowed by former 49ers runner Frank Gore. 2015 saw Hyde’s campaign cut short by a foot injury. Hopefully, with health on his side, this year will be Hyde’s “coming out” party.

The only real question at this position will be which player(s) back up Hyde.

Could fans see more of rookie Kelvin Taylor? Or will second-year pro Mike Davis finally come to the forefront?

And who knows if the Niners add yet another runner via the 2017 NFL Draft — one with too much promise or potential to be avoided.
