The San Francisco 49ers have kicked off their OTA sessions in preparation for the 2016 season. Who has impressed so far? Who has disappointed so far? Have we learnt anything about future roster projections? Niner Noise takes a look at these storylines.

The Niners are now two weeks deep into their OTA sessions. The offense has been practicing fast whilst still in the midst of learning head coach Chip Kelly’s offensive schemes. The defense is also working on learning defensive coordinator Jim O’Neil’s schemes.

The Niners currently have their 90-man roster set, and nearly everyone is getting a crack on the practice field. However, first-round pick Joshua Garnett is still in school and won’t be eligible to practice until minicamp on June 7.

Others are rehabbing from injuries, namely quarterback Colin Kaepernick, defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey, fellow defensive tackle Ian Williams (who hasn’t joined the team yet and is still in Florida), and linebacker Ahmad Brooks, who is not practicing due to an “undisclosed” injury.

The other draft picks are into action. DeForest Buckner has been practicing with the third team, as noted by Niner Nation’s Jennifer Chan:

"DeForest Buckner is still working with the 3s. He is obviously going to get playing time this season, but it’s possible that because they know what they are getting with him, they are letting others get more time with the 2s."

Sixth-round draft pick in QB Jeff Driskel has seen plenty of action in various 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 drills whilst working with most of the wide receivers on the roster.

Let’s take a look at five takeaways from the Niners OTA sessions and break down what we have learned from each storyline.
