San Francisco 49ers: 10 Players Who May Be on the Roster Bubble After NFL Draft
By Peter Panacy
Running Back Shaun Draughn
San Francisco’s attrition at running back last season opened up the door for journeyman tailback Shaun Draughn to get some reps towards the tail end of 2015.
Draughn had some nice moments in featured action and ended up with 263 yards on 76 carries plus a touchdown. Yet an injury in Week 14 cut Draughn’s campaign short, and he ended up missing the remainder of the season.
The 49ers re-signed Draughn this offseason, likely a move to reinforce this depleted position and open up competition depending on what happened in the draft.
With No. 1 running back Carlos Hyde expected to be fully healthy, one spot can already be crossed off the list of, potentially, four or so roster holes at this position. And the Niners aren’t likely to close the book this early on rookie running back Kelvin Taylor out of Florida.
Draughn will be competing with fellow backs DuJuan Harris, Kendall Gaskins, Jarryd Hayne and Mike Davis this offseason.
Gaskins, Hayne and Davis are all eligible for the practice squad, but Draughn and Harris aren’t.
There are only so many roster spots here.
