Running Back

Players on Roster: Mike Davis, Shaun Draughn, Kendall Gaskins, DuJuan Harris, Jarryd Hayne, Carlos Hyde, Kelvin Taylor

While not necessarily viewed as a top-tier need this offseason, San Francisco enters the 2016 season with more than a few concerns at running back.

No. 1 tailback Carlos Hyde is expected to be fully healthy after a foot injury limited his efforts a year ago. Keeping him healthy, and providing a nice change of pace, will be two preeminent factors in determining which backs make the roster.

And there is also the determination of a “best fit” player in head coach Chip Kelly’s inside-zone offensive scheme.

The addition of rookie running back Kelvin Taylor could shake up the depth chart and, potentially, push tailbacks Mike Davis, Shaun Draughn, DuJuan Harris and/or Jarryd Hayne off the roster entirely.

San Francisco will likely keep at least three running backs, four at the most. Do the math, and it’s not hard to determine a few players will have to go.
