2016 NFL Draft: Injury-concern Prospects the San Francisco 49ers May Consider
By Peter Panacy
Wide Receiver Josh Doctson, TCU
Injury: Wrist
Just like cornerback Kendall Fuller, TCU wide receiver Josh Doctson also suffered a season-ending wrist injury.
Docston has tremendous hands and route-running potential. He has some rawness to his game, but his familiarity with TCU’s spread offense would make him a good candidate for head coach Chip Kelly’s scheme.
And, since Docston doesn’t have a knee injury, there should be little concerns about his speed on the field.
If there is a concern with a wide receiver and his wrists, it will be his ability to continue catching the ball without any discomfort. Rarely do we see wideouts with similar injuries unable to bounce back from such a setback, so Doctson’s wrist shouldn’t be too much of a concern.
But it doesn’t mean the risk is absent either.
San Francisco currently has one bona fide receiver on it’s roster: Torrey Smith. The remaining options, such as Quinton Patton, Bruce Ellington and DeAndre Smelter, are questionable ones at best.
Doctson is projected as a Day 1 or 2 prospect, per CBS Sports.
