San Fransisco 49ers: 5 Steps for a Successful 2016 NFL Draft
By Rob Lowder
Incorporate Kelly
While newly hired head coach Chip Kelly’s previous journey into the role of general manager produced less than desirable results, his offensive knowledge and experience should prove valuable to Trent Baalke, especially earlier in the draft.
Baalke’s luck with offensive talent has produced mixed results and most fans need no reminding of an infamous selection in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
While Chip Kelly’s past may cause some to shutter at the idea of allowing him input in regards to selections, his unique brand of offense and clear vision would be foolish to ignore.
Tyler Emerick of 49ers.com highlights Chip Kelly’s already apparent focus on this year’s draft:
"When discussing how he weighs the array of numbers recorded at the NFL Scouting Combine, new San Francisco 49ers coach Chip Kelly sounded a lot like the man in charge of the team’s draft preparations."
Baalke and company have been granted a head coach with the ability to drastically transform the 49ers offense and should take his player fits into account when establishing their big board.
When you take into account all five necessary steps, Baalke is primed for an impactful 2016 NFL Draft
He has the ideal number of picks to not only move throughout the draft at will, but to load the roster with quality talent capable of taking the team to where it needs to go.
It seems simple enough now, but will Baalke be able to impose his will on April 28?
