Week 2 at Carolina Panthers

From a seemingly easy victory in Week 1 to a likely impossible victory in Week 2, the 49ers will have to travel back east to take on the NFC Champion Carolina Panthers in what, by all accounts, would seem to be a lopsided affair.

The Denver Broncos pass rush may have been the Panthers’ kryptonite in Super Bowl 50, but the Niners don’t boast anything of the sort compared to what was seen at Levi’s Stadium a few months back.

Mind you, this is a Carolina team coming off a 15-1 season and averaged 31.2 points per game, which was the highest in the NFL last season. The Panthers defense is talented and deep as well — they allowed only 19.2 points per game.

San Francisco averaged a mere 14.9 points per game on offense — dead last.

There aren’t any moral victories in football, but some saving grace might be if the 49ers hang on and go blow for blow against this NFC juggernaut.

Even if they come up short, which the Niners are most likely to do.

Prediction: Loss
