Guard Andrew Tiller

Offensive guard Andrew Tiller was one of the few bright spots emerging from San Francisco’s otherwise permeable offensive line last season.

Tiller finished with a plus-5.8 overall grade in 2015, per Pro Football Focus — second only behind left tackle Joe Staley.

With the 49ers signing fellow guard Zane Beadles to a free-agent deal, Tiller is likely in the mix to compete for the starting right tackle spot, assuming Beadles takes over the left side for now-Minnesota Viking Alex Boone.

So why would Tiller be on the watch list for players whose jobs may be in jeopardy.

There are a couple of good reasons for this. Let’s not forget Tiller was a sixth-round pick of the New Orleans Saints back in 2012 and has bounced around a bit before finding a home in San Francisco.

True, some players take a bit longer to fully develop at the NFL level, and that may be the case with Tiller.

Yet the 49ers could still use some improvement at guard in this year’s draft. Perhaps the selection of a top prospect like Stanfords Joshua Garnett — the 2015 Outland Trophy recipient — would put some hot competition right on Tiller’s heels.
