2016 NFL Draft: Good Picks vs. Bad Picks for the San Francisco 49ers

Good Fit: Quarterback Jared Goff, Cal
OK, so we still have zero clue what will happen with embattled quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Will he be traded to the Denver Broncos this offseason, or will Kap remain in place for 2016?
Regardless, it’s possible the 49ers elect to go with a quarterback early on in the NFL Draft. And there is no shortage of analysts mocking Cal quarterbacking prospect Jared Goff to San Francisco at No. 7 overall.
Goff is, perhaps, the most NFL-ready quarterback in the draft. And it’s impossible to overlook the Bay Area ties (Goff is from nearby Novato) and the fact Goff grew up rooting for the Niners.
But Goff fitting in with San Francisco goes beyond just boyhood teams.
To determine the fit, let’s look at what CBS Sports’ Dane Brugler and Rob Rang said of Goff and, more specifically, draw ties to head coach Chip Kelly’s offense:
"There is no denying that Goff’s production is inflated due to coach Sonny Dykes’ up-tempo spread offense, which provides the quarterback the ball out of shotgun and quick passes to the perimeter. That said, Goff shows many of the traits scouts are looking for in a pro-style quarterback, including impressive accuracy on in-cutting routes in the short, intermediate and deep levels, the courage to stand in the pocket and enough functional mobility to buy time."
These are also traits further described in the video below:
There are concerns about Goff’s hand size and whether or not Cal’s spread offense may be a hindrance to the quarterback’s maturation process at the pro level. But, as Brugler and Rang note, Goff also demonstrates pro-style abilities as well.
Such traits make him a good fit, should the 49ers go this route early on.
