Who Will Be the 49ers’ No. 1 Pick in the NFL Draft?

One of the biggest — no, not the biggest — question facing the 49ers and their fan base will be which prospect the Niners take first in the NFL Draft.

As stated on the previous slide, Round 1 prospects always generate the most amount of buzz and are, generally, considered to be the most NFL-ready players on the board. With the No. 7 overall pick in the draft, who will it be?

Quarterback is one widely speculated thought. Perhaps Cal quarterback, and Bay Area native, Jared Goff is the right fit for San Francisco in Round 1. It’s a thought described in further detail in the video below:

And yet the 49ers may not get their hands on Goff at all. Should the Cleveland Browns select North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz, the move could open up the door for the Dallas Cowboys (drafting at No. 4 overall) to take Goff if they want a long-term replacement for aging veteran Tony Romo.

Even if Goff falls to the 49ers, general manager Trent Baalke could go a different route. Perhaps reinforcing the defensive line with a player like defensive end DeForest Buckner would be the right move. Or someone like Notre Dame’s Ronnie Stanley could help shore up needs along the offensive line.

But what if an enticing, talented defensive player like Ohio State’s Joey Bosa or UCLA’s Myles Jack falls to San Francisco at No. 7? Could the 49ers fathom avoiding such a unique opportunity?

Speculation and rumor will continue to run their course leading up to April 28.
