Round 6, Pick 178: Jonathan Jones, CB, Auburn

This is another “best player available” pick—once you get down to the final few rounds, you’re less trying to fill holes as much as you are just drafting talent wherever you can find it.

The talent Jonathan Jones brings you is blazing speed—he put up a 4.33-second 40-yard dash at the combine, as well as 19 reps in the bench press. A former high-school sprinter and hurdles champion, Jones is exceptionally athletic, earning a second-team All-SEC nod in 2014.

His height—he’s only 5’9”—limits his ceiling, both figuratively and literally. He also was only so-so last season, after a great 2014. Still, that athleticism can’t be taught, so it’s worth kicking the tires on him and placing him on the practice squad.

Other players considered:

  • Vadal Alexander, G, LSU
  • Victor Ochi, OLB, Stoney Brook
  • Jeff Driskel, QB, Louisiana Tech
