Round 5: FB Glenn Gronkowski, Kansas State

The 49ers own three picks in Round 5 but elect to trade off their two non-compensatory selections for future considerations.

Remember, San Francisco is hitting cap trouble in 10 years’ time and will need to make some immediate adjustments right now.

Kansas State fullback Glenn Gronkowski is one of the most enticing prospects in the draft. The younger brother of New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, Glenn Gronkowski provides a nearly identical skill set to his older brother.

Gronkowski can play fullback, tight end, tackle and even offers up skills in the return game. His basketball skills are also worth evaluating, which makes his selection even more probable given the 49ers’ offseason basketball scrimmages.

With running back Carlos Hyde moving to fullback and Bruce Miller already on the roster, the Niners would have excellent depth at this crucial position.
