Round 3 – Pick 68

The Pick: Landon Turner, G, North Carolina

Other Options: Kendrell Brothers, ILB, Missouri / Braxton Miller, WR, Ohio State

Even with the recent signing of former Jaguars guard Zane Beadles, and even if Joshua Garnett is the pick in the previous round, the 49ers offensive line merits significant investment. North Carolina’s Landon Turner would prove an outstanding fit for a franchise that was known for its unrelenting rushing attack.

At 6’4”, 330 pounds, Turner is a formidable blocker. He possesses the frame that enables him to latch on to defenders and easily drive them back. He’s technically sound, maintaining a low base and consistently sets his feet.

His personality is apparent on the field, as well. He plays with an aggressiveness that resembles a popular free agency target and newly acquired Raiders guard Kelechi Osemele.

If the 49ers choose to invest elsewhere, finding an impact player such as Missouri linebacker Kendrell Brothers to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with All-Pro NoVarro Bowman would be a worthwhile selection. While not nearly as dynamic as Myles Jack or as intimidating as Reggie Ragland, Brothers wins with consistent tackling and a good instincts.

Hopefully the 49ers wide receiving group has already been given an upgrade, but should the chips fall elsewhere, Ohio State’s Braxton Miller would project as a nightmare in Chip Kelly’s offense.

A former QB, Braxton is an elite athlete that has already shown amazing strides, given the single season he’s spent at the position of wide receiver.

While there is a chance Miller is no longer available, his inexperience at the position should make him a day-two prospect.
