San Francisco 49ers: Latest News & Rumors Before 2016 NFL Free Agency

Quarterback Robert Griffin III Would Consider Signing with San Francisco
The 49ers could still pursue a quarterbacking option on the free-agent market this offseason. And it may come from none other than Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III.
Like Colin Kaepernick, Griffin will probably seeking a new team in 2016. And his first choice could be the 49ers.
At least according to ESPN’s John Clayton, who appeared on 95.7 The Game recently (h/t Steve Berman of Bay Area Sports Guy).
“Clearly if Kaepernick’s gone, I could see RG III in a 49ers uniform because I think that would be his first choice, even if they do draft a quarterback at No. 7,” Clayton said.
Griffin hasn’t played since 2014 but enjoyed some success with the zone-read offense, per Berman, prior to his downfall with the Redskins organization.
It’s possible the 49ers may be interested given their own concerns under center, although it’s likely to be a situation where Griffin serves primarily as a backup option or, at best, competes for a starting role if Kaepernick is no longer in the picture.
