Defensive Tackle Glenn Dorsey

2015 Statistics

San Francisco’s defensive line is one of the few areas of solid depth this offseason, although this unit could suffer a significant loss if free-agent nose tackle Ian Williams signs elsewhere.

Should that happen, defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey’s future may be a little more certain. But he already has competition with fellow D-linemen Arik Armstead, Quinton Dial, Mike Purcell and Tony Jerod-Eddie along the line, and it’s more than feasible to see San Francisco make some more additions via the draft or free agency.

Dorsey suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 10 last season and likely won’t be ready for the start of 2016.

Counting at least $691,668 in dead money against the cap this year, Dorsey could still remain on the roster on injured reserve. But he’s only signed through this season, and the 49ers could save an additional $2-plus million if released.

If the 49ers retain Williams and/or add pieces this offseason, Dorsey’s tenure in San Francisco seems all the more in doubt.
