2016 NFL Scouting Combine: Players the San Francisco 49ers Should Watch
By Peter Panacy
WR Laquon Treadwell, Ole Miss
The 49ers could be targeting a playmaking wide receiver in Round 1 to eventually replace veteran free agent Anquan Boldin.
And CBS Sports ranks Ole Miss wideout Laquon Treadwell as the best player at this position coming out in the draft. At 6’2″ and 210 pounds, Treadwell is the embodiment of the large-sized wide receiver head coach Chip Kelly covets. And he could be the perfect complement to speedy veteran receiver Torrey Smith.
But Treadwell also has some concerns about his straight-line speed.
Dane Brugler of CBS Sports noted Treadwell “lacks sprinter speed” but makes up for it with an ability to be decisive in his footwork.
Treadwell won’t be running at the combine, per a recent report from Scott Bischoff of New Era Scouting.
This changes Treadwell’s stock for sure as his concern over elite speed seems to be one of the marks against him. Avoiding the chance to thwart this worry may drop his draft stock.
So the Niners will want to pay close attention to nearly every other facet possible to determine whether or not Treadwell would be worth a No. 1 selection.
