2016 NFL Draft: Complete Mock for 49ers in Each Round
Round 4: Graham Glasgow, C, Michigan
Back-to-back picks on the offensive line should provide depth and breadth to the offensive line pool. Because the 49ers have so many needs, they can’t really afford to use high picks on the offensive line. Thus, a larger number of mid-round picks for competition and redundancy is their best shot at getting starters out of the draft.
Glasgow played both guard and center in college, and his head coach, one Jim Harbaugh, has been singing his praises as a potential first-round pick. Harbaugh, as 49ers fans well know, over-sells his guys, but Glasgow’s power and versatility make him an intriguing prospect. His floor is a useful backup who can cover multiple positions, and he has the consistency and aggression to eventually become a full-fledged starter.
He also has some off-field demons—he was arrested for a DUI in 2014 and then violated his probation with an alcohol incident as well, so there are some concerns as to his disciple off the field. By all accounts, however, Harbaugh has done well by him, and a fourth-round pick is a solid place to gamble on a good player with character issues.
This is also a good spot to start considering an inside linebacker to pair with NaVorro Bowman, but my mock had B.J. Goodson of Clemson slip to Dallas just before the 49ers were on the clock, so I’ll settle for improving the worst unit on the team.
Other players considered:
- Adam Gotsis, DE, Georgia Tech
- Charles Tapper, DE, Oklahoma
- Rishard Higgins, WR, Colorado State
