No. 2: Joe Montana — Super Bowl XXIV vs. Denver Broncos

This game was the coronation of Montana’s historic career with the 49ers, and it cemented his legacy of one of the best QBs to ever play the game.

Montana was a one-man show — he threw passes at will, with perfect timing and velocity to find his receivers all over the field. It was like watching a symphony orchestra at their very best. It was sublime.

Montana set a then-Super Bowl record with 5 TD passes, going 22-of-29 (76 percent completion rate) for 297 yards. He led the offense to 461 total yards, a 19-minute time-of-possession advantage, and a 45-point winning margin, setting (and still is today) the biggest victory ever in a Super Bowl.

Montana was an easy selection as the Super Bowl MVP.

Montana’s performance was nearly No. 1 on this list. It was a toss up. The difference maker was the next man broke Montana’s Super Bowl passing record.
