San Francisco 49ers: Season-End Awards for 2015
Least Valuable Player – Erik Pears
While Kaepernick endured a miserable year, he was not the only reason for the 49ers’ struggles in 2015. He was put in a terrible position in playing behind an offensive line that gave up 53 sacks.
Jordan Devey had a terrible season at right guard but was mercifully benched in favor of Andrew Tiller. Marcus Martin continued to struggle but it is Erik Pears who has to go down as the worst player on the San Francisco O-line.
Pears allowed 37 hurries, four hits and 10 sacks and ended the campaign with an overall PFF grade of minus 30.7.
The statistics tell their own story and 49er fans will hope Pears’ days with San Francisco are numbered. Kelly’s offensive system is dependent on the offensive linemen being athletic. Pears has proven to be anything but and should be looking for a new team in 2016.
