Jared Goff- Quarterback- CAL

Goff is the name that most 49er fans have heard. He plays just up the road in Berkeley and has largely been touted as the best quarterback in the 2016 class. Goff began the season as the top quarterback on most boards and essentially held that position for the entire 2015 season.

Shortly after leading his team to a 55-36 win in the Armed Forces Bowl, Goff made the announcement that he would declare for the NFL Draft.

Teams had begun evaluating Goff long before his official announcement but the commitment solidifies his status as a future franchise quarterback.

The 49ers win against the Rams made their selection of Goff slightly less likely, as it left them behind the Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys and made it possible for teams to trade up in front to target Goff.

In his team’s bowl game, Goff threw for 467 yards and six touchdowns. If that isn’t a nice adios to college, I’m not sure what is. As Goff prepares for the NFL Draft, it is safe to say that he will go within the first 10 picks.

Goff is routinely praised for his pocket presence and ability to escape pressure, reset his feet and throw accurately to all areas of the field. He will be asked to bulk up in the NFL, but at 6’4” he shouldn’t have trouble adding to his frame.

The criticisms on Goff are limited but some suggest that he isn’t asked to do much in the “Bear Raid” offense that he played in. While Matt Miller noted Goff’s skills compared to others, he later suggested that Goff isn’t asked to do quite as much. Nonetheless, Miller notes that Goff stands out in key categories.

Goff is highly regarded by most scouts and, in all likelihood, will end up being the first quarterback off of the board in April. The 49ers may not have a chance to select the Bear at pick number seven. If they do, it’d be hard to pass on a franchise quarterback to pair with a new head coach.
