Quarterback Colin Kaepernick

2015 Statistics

You knew this was coming, right?

The demise of quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been one of the toughest things to watch over the last two seasons in San Francisco. Once considered one of the NFL’s bright emerging stars, Kaepernick has now been relegated to an afterthought.

And his future with the Niners is in serious doubt after fellow QB Blaine Gabbert took over the starting duties in Week 9 last season.

Before that, Kaepernick posted a 59 percent completion percentage, 1,615 passing yards, six passing touchdowns against five interceptions as well as a passer rating of 78.5. That rating was the lowest of his career.

Also contributing to Kaepernick’s demise were the 28 sacks he took over the course of his eight starts.

Kaepernick finished the season ranked No. 37 out of 38 qualifying quarterbacks, per Pro Football Focus.

Yes, it’s entirely possible the 49ers front office set him up to fail. And he wasn’t benefited by a lackluster offensive line.

But Kaepernick had to know, entering this season, he would be under the microscope. He didn’t seize the opportunity and, ultimately, has likely had his future in San Francisco decided for him.
