Wide Receiver Torrey Smith
It’s a bit tough to consider wide receiver Torrey Smith a disappointment in 2015 given the five-year pro was San Francisco’s lone deep threat — an element the 49ers offense used on three different occasions during the season.

But Smith was supposed to be more than just a deep threat when the 49ers signed him to a deal last offseason. He was intended to be the guy who took the top off opposing defenses and open things up underneath.
San Francisco’s offense finished dead last in the NFL with just 238 points scored.
A lot of this can be attributed to play-calling. Smith, who has a knack for drawing penalties, was targeted just 15 times on third down this season — a start contrast to the 26 times the ball was thrown his way on first downs.
Smith wasn’t utilized properly. But he ultimately disappointed in 2015. He’ll be with the 49ers next season though, so look for a new coaching staff to put him to better use.
