Round 3: Own Pick

Selection: OG Spencer Drango, Baylor

Statistics

Waiting until Round 3 to address problems within the 49ers’ top problematic area — the offensive line — may be a bit risky.

A lot of what happens here depends on actions yet to be determined. Veteran left guard Alex Boone is in a contract year, so he could re-sign with the 49ers. Or maybe he doesn’t. The 49ers may opt to go into free agency to land either a guard or outside tackle, thus negating the need for O-linemen in the draft to a certain extent.

There is also the possibility of retired right tackle Anthony Davis returning — simply visit his Twitter feed to view the hints — and, perhaps, San Francisco will look to continue developments for linemen Andrew Tiller and/or Trenton Brown.

Oh, and the return of center Daniel Kilgore also helps alleviate numerous concerns.

Still, the 49ers likely won’t wait until Round 4 or later to plug up some weaknesses along the line.

At 6’6″ and 310 pouns, 2014 All-American selection Spencer Drango out of Baylor would be a steal in Round 3.

Here’s what Dane Brugler of CBS Sports had to say about him earlier this year:

"Plays with a wide base with easy natural quickness in his kick-slide, positioning himself to stonewall rushers with brick hands. Relies on timing and awareness and is rarely caught on off-balance with a quick-thinking approach that limits his mistakes. Drango has an impressive NFL skillset as the game appears to come very easily to him, but he projects best inside at the next level."

Drango is ranked by CBS Sports as a late second- or early third-round pick. But this is the part of the draft where it’s hard to predict exactly where someone will fall.
