The 49ers will travel to Detroit to face the 5-0 Lions in the game of the week, what a wacky world the NFL truly is.  The teams are a combined 9-1 this season, this point last year they were a combined 1-9, what a difference a year (or a coach) makes.  Both teams will have to shake off big wins and put their confidence aside as they each will face their biggest challenges of the season.  The Lions are coming off a short week after hosting the first Monday Night Football game in Detroit in the last decade.  The 49ers are coming off their biggest win in the last decade in a 45 point stomping of the Tampa Bay Bucs.

The biggest challenge for each team will be containing the others dangerous front 7.  While the Lions defensive line gets a lot of attention the 49ers are working on 27 consecutive games without giving up a 100 yard rusher.  Both teams rank among the elite teams in football against the rush the Lions Jahvid Best is looking forward to the opportunity of playing the 49ers his most hated team growing up.  The 49ers may have to rely more on Kendall Hunter this week despite Frank Gore’s success the last 2 weeks.  It will be key for the 49ers to get around the corner in a hurry against the Lions, the power running attack the team employs with Gore won’t be  near as successful this week vs the middle of the Detroit line that features Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley.
