With the San Francisco 49ers currently having 11 draft picks, plus more to come, it is highly likely the team will target a defensive back in the first three rounds. Defensive back, and more importantly at cornerback, is an area opposing offenses exploited in the regular season and playoffs.

The top defensive backs from the NFL Scouting Combine included Alabama’s CB Dee Milliner, Texas S Kenny Vaccaro, UConn’s CB Blidi Wreh-Wilson, Washington’s CB Desmond Trufant and Florida State’s CB Xavier Rhodes. Don’t be surprised if the 49ers draft Trufant with their first-round draft selection.

With the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine coming to an end on Tuesday, the next step for the San Francisco 49ers is attending the various college pro day workouts.

Niner Noise has written about who the 49ers should focus in on at the NFL draft, April 25-27. But the college pro days Jim Harbaugh, Trent Baalke and their scouts attend will be a good indication of which players the 49ers are targeting in the draft.

Attending the college pro day workouts is important for teams, because it gives them an up close and personal assessment of players they are interested in drafting. It also gives the prospects one last chance to impress teams or to give a first impression if they did not participate at the NFL Scouting Combine.

The month of March will be busy for the 49ers. They will not only attend various college pro day workouts, but will also turn their attention to trades and free agency with the official start of the 2013 season on March 12.

One of the positions the San Francisco 49ers will address in the draft is at wide receiver. Even with the emergence of Michael Crabtree as a primary target, the 49ers will be looking for receivers who can make an impact right away.

Three of those wide receivers could be Cal’s Keen Allen, Tennessee’s Cordarrelle Patterson and West Virgninia’s Tavon Austin. Most of the mock drafts have all three being drafted before the 49ers make their first draft selection at No. 31, but there is the possibility of their draft stock slipping. Would the 49ers draft a wide receiver in the first-round two years in a row?
