The tornado that is Terrell Owens has ripped through San Francisco, Philadelphia and Dallas leaving all three locker rooms in disarray. Owens has a thing for not only destroying a team’s chemistry as soon as he walks into the locker room but also fractures his relationships with the quarterbacks he has played with. While with the 49ers T.O. basically said he thought quarterback Jeff Garcia was a homosexual. His time ended with the Eagles after a string of incidents with quarterback Donavan McNabb and the Eagles organization. After the Eagles Super Bowl loss T.O. said he “wasn’t the guy who got tired in the Super Bowl” which many thought was directed to McNabb as the Eagles lost to the Patriots. T.O. wanted a new contract after his first season and threaten to sit out training camp while he worked out in his driveway for the media. Owens reported to training camp on time but after more controversy he was suspended four games without pay and then deactivated for the rest of the season by the Eagles late in the 2005 season. T.O. was released following the season and signed with the Cowboys. The wrecking ball that is Owens continued in Dallas as he had success with the team but could not keep his mouth shut as he fought and questioned how quarterback Tony Romo’s play was affecting the teams and his performance. When he didn’t get as many looks as he wanted last season T.O. lashed out against Romo, tight end Jason Witten and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett saying they were designing plays not to go to him.

Karma started to become an issue for Owens when he was released by the Cowboys this past off-season. T.O. claimed Cowboys owner Jerry Jones assured him that he would remain part of the team and he was blindsided by the release. T.O. has also made other people the scapegoat even when it was clear that he was the problem on the team and remained a cancer if he stayed. Karma has put T.O. into football obscurity this season as he is now part of an anemic offense that despite his tremendous talent it is not enough to overcome the offensive woes of the Buffalo Bills. Owens has only 15 receptions, 215 receiving yards and 1 touchdown so far this season. This is what happens to a player who thinks he is above anybody and whichever team he is currently on. Karma is now paying back T.O. for all of the issues and turmoil he has caused in his career. The Bills will not trade Owens this year as that is uncommon in the NFL for a wide receiver to be traded mid-season. However with T.O.’s contract up at the end of the season I doubt he will resign with the Bills. Owens will find another to sign with, the question is will T.O’s bad karma following him.

Over the weekend former 49ers QB Jeff Garcia was released by the Buccaneers. With any QB released that has at least a full year of starting experience, the 49ers will always be rumored to be in the mix. Former Falcon superstar and dog trainer Michael Vick will be released from jail in the coming months and it has been reported the 49ers are interested in the possibility of bringing Vick to the 49ers. I think neither is a good choice and here is why. Garcia was great as a Niner and kept his career going with the Eagles and Buccaneers. But the man is old as mold and has one or two more years probably left in his career. The 49ers need stability at quarterback and a one/two year guy is not the answer.

Vick would be a bad acquisition because of what the 49ers would have to give up in order to acquire him in a trade. Remember Vick is still a Falcon and no matter how good of a QB Matt Ryan has become the Falcons will try to get the maximum for Vick which would be multiple draft picks the 49ers badly need to upgrade various positions. The Falcons can offer Vick to the highest bidder as the 49ers are not the only team in need of a QB. The Falcons could just hold onto Vick and have him serve as a backup to Ryan just to spite Vick. As much as I want a good QB under center for the Niners acquiring Vick is a bad idea. The draft picks the 49ers give up could be used to bolster the defense and offense to give enough talent for incumbent starter Shaun Hill to be successful. If you are going to waste draft picks on a QB a better, just as horrible, option is to draft a QB in the first or second round. And who knows what type of player Vick will be after being out of the NFL for at least two years. I am glad this is a long-shot.

Singletary Comments on Jimmy Raye:

Singletary answered questions at a season-ticket holder event yesterday. One of the questions was about the hiring of Jimmy Raye as offensive coordinator.

“Just watch. If you look on paper, I wouldn’t get excited about Jimmy Raye over Mike Martz, either, because of what Mike Martz has done. … But just watch … I challenge you to step back and see what happens right for the 49ers now.”

Good point, we cannot judge Raye by comparing him to Martz. But remember Singletary the downfall of your friend and predecessor was hiring bad coaches, among other things. The 49er Faithful will reserve judgment, for now. Everything is on your shoulders though. Raye must improve the offense more than Martz did last year which will be hard. The right free-agent signings and draft picks will help but ultimately anything short of offensive progression over last year will not be tolerate. Let’s hope Raye is Norv Turner and not Jim Hostler.

When a team has two Hall of Fame quarterbacks who led you to five Super Bowl rings the thought of your team ever having questions as to who will be under center next year never amounted. The 49er Faithfull has been dealing without the luxury of a consistent and reliable quarterback since Jeff Garcia was released in 2004. We have dealt with the likes of J.T. O’Sullivan, Alex Smith, Trent Dilfer, Ken Dorsey and Tim Rattay. The thought that the 49ers are not any closer now is scary. To win a Super Bowl a team needs a franchise quarterback but at the least a reliable leader who manages the game right and gets the win. We somewhat have the latter in Shaun Hill. The question I have is do we hang on with Hill to see what he can do with more game experience and draft a QB in say the 3rd or 4th round hoping he develops quickly? Or do we try to trade for a proven QB with experience? The last question will be harder and cost lots of draft picks so I say hold onto Hill and see what he can do and draft a QB you think might be a durable QB in two to three years. This is saying a lot for GM Scott McCloughan and the Joke Family to do, making a right decision when it comes to drafting talent. So let’s go Hill!
