After pulling out another 4th quarter comeback in Seattle winning 19-17 over the Seahawks the 49ers move to 12-3. With a first round bye and the #2 seed within their grasp the Niners came up big. This was definitely a team effort, one that’s hard to give the Pigskins to any group of individuals.

In a new installment each week regardless if it’s a 49er win or loss I will give out a minimum of 3 Hamm’s Pigskin of the week awards. One will be designated for an offensive player, another for a defensive player. The third will be the wildcard and can come from anywhere on the team including the coaching staff. Don’t forget to comment and let me know what you think of my picks each week.

Hamm’s Offensive Pigskin of the Week: Frank Gore- Gore was unstoppable carrying the ball just 15 times for 141 yards and a TD. Gore once again proved that he is a top notch running back in this league. His burst through the hole was explosive especially on those 2 long runs that led to 49er scores.

Hamm’s Defensive Pigskin of the Week: Aldon Smith- Smith was great, 2 sacks, 1 that went for a safety, 4 tackles, a forced fumble and a near Interception. This guy is red hot, that’s 6 sacks in 6 games for the #7 overall pick, he’s now pacing for 16 sacks this season and let’s not forget he was a part time player for the team in weeks 1-3. Anybody second guessing that pick by Trent Baalke now? I didn’t think so.

Hamm’s Wildcard Pigskin of the Week: Jim Harbaugh- Going into the bye Harbaugh has this team playing like a superbowl contender. Nobody and I mean nobody expected that coming into the season. He has Alex Smith playing better than he ever has as one of the best QBs this season. He has reinvented the running game, while still featuring Frank Gore he has supplemented him with rookie Kendall Hunter to perfection. Not to mention the 49ers own one of the best defenses and special teams units in the NFL.

And this week’s bonus: Hamm’s The Guy You Might Not Have Noticed Pigskin of the Week: Jonathan Goodwin the free agent Center was great today for the 49ers. He dominated the front and had huge blocks on both of Frank Gore’s big runs. The 49ers won the most important battle of the day the battle upfront and Goodwin was a huge reason why.
