The San Francisco 49ers used the franchise tag on safety Dashon Goldson, which I thought they would. So the question now is will the Niners look to resign cornerback Carlos Rogers or let him test free agency? Rogers is the lasts starter from lasts years amazing defense how is not under contract and with QB Alex Smith looking for a contract as well, looks as if Rogers might be leaving the Niners. I’ll be honest it does puzzles me a bit that the Niners sign LB Ahmad Brooks to a six year deal, a player who does not play every down. The Niner defense was excellent forcing third and longs throughout the season, prompting the Niners to go with their nickel package on third down. The backers in the nickel scheme would be Patrick Willis, NaVarro Bowman, and Aldon Smith; Brooks was not included. On the other hand, Rogers was on the defense every down and making big plays in the process. Why Brooks over Rogers thus far? (more…)

The 49ers hit on a few free agent bargains this off season but the biggest has to be corner back Carlos Rogers. Rogers signed a 1 year $4 million deal with the team after his market for a lucrative long term deal failed to materialize. Rogers spent the first six seasons with the Redskins came in with the reputation of a good corner with stone hands that couldn’t catch any interceptions. That perception has certainly changed this year as Rogers was tied for the league lead through week 6 with 3 INTs this season.

In short time it seems that Rogers has found a place he wants to call home for a long time in San Francisco:

“If we can get something worked out, that would be great,” Rogers told CSNBayArea.com on Tuesday. “My agent (Todd France) knows that I like what’s going on here. I want to be here. This has been great for me, and I would love to get something worked out for five, six years.”

Apparently the 49ers aren’t interested in signing free agent wide receiver Terrell Owens after all. Owens who started his career in 1996 with the 49ers before he forced his way out of town in a trade to the Eagles. 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday that he didn’t even know if the 49ers were sending a representative to Owens workout in California today, indicating that the 49er brass has zero interest in him.

This comes as good news to me, Owens has ruined his opportunity everywhere he has gone and the risk would far outweigh the reward of a Owens return to San Francisco. Still though this will disappoint some 49er fans, I was surprised at the results in our recent poll where I asked simply would you like to see TO return to the Red and Gold to which exactly 41% of NinerNoise voters responded both yes and no.

*UPDATE* Zero teams, I repeat zero teams showed up for the TO work out today in Los Angeles today. The media came out in full force and the entire session in which Owens ran around and did agility drills and caught some footballs was filmed. Agent Drew Rosenhaus struck out big here, how can you publically accounce a workout for your client without securing at least 1 team’s promise to show up and evaluate him? The first thought I had when hearing of the news today was that this felt like the Barry Bonds situation. Nobody signed him despite the fact that he publically stated he wanted to play for 2 years after his last season with the Giants. ESPNs Jon Clayton said today on ESPN radio that he gave it between a 15-20% chance Owens would ever get signed by any team this season. If you ask me this is just another case of what goes around comes around, oh and one last cheap shot on my way if you haven’t heard TO is broke so he needs a job in the NFL desperately. This may be the worst day TO has had in a long time, in contrast it was the best day I’ve had since the 49ers last victory, so long TO!
Page 2: My message to those who responded yes they want TO back in SF
