As the NFL Trade Deadline approaches Tuesday’s 1pm PST deadline the 49ers may be in line to upgrade the offense. With many injuries to the Wide Receiver group the team is apparently interested in bringing back former 49er WR Brandon Lloyd.

I remember Lloyd best from his 49er days as a loud mouth WR who always seemed to comedown with a crazy catch but couldn’t put his entire game together. The 49ers later traded him to the Redskins who gave him a big contract, one he did not live up to.

Lloyd broke out last season with the Denver Broncos going to his first pro bowl. Reports say he has asked the team for a trade as they transition to QB Tim Tebow, Lloyd is a known supporter of Kyle Orton.

When the news was first reported I was not a supporter of the 49ers trading for Lloyd. I’ve since changed my tune. Even with Braylon Edwards scheduled to return from injury after this week’s bye you can never have too many playmakers. The 49ers now look like legit contenders in the NFC, beefing up at the trade deadline can only help.

*UPDATE* Lloyd has been traded to the Rams for a conditional pick believed to be a 6th round pick that could become a 5th rounder in 2012 if Lloyd meets certain performance requirements with the Rams. With such a low price tag that the Rams paid for Lloyd I’m guessing the 49ers didn’t want him at all. A straight out 5th round offer would have got it done apparently and if you really want a player that’s not a whole lot to give up. The picture above sums up my feelings, maybe the 49ers were actually calling about Eddie Royal who also has been rumored to be asking for a trade out of Denver.

In less than 1 hour the 49ers will take on the 5-0 Detriot Lions in the game of the week. A few 49er tidbits to hold you over:

Heat star Lebron James will be in attendance, maybe he’s scouting teams to play for this season if that NBA lockout continues?

The 49ers haven’t been 5-1 since 1998, and haven’t had a 4 game winning streak since 2001

Jay Glazer is reporting on his twitter that the 49ers are one of 3 teams interested in trading for Broncos Widereceiver Brandon Lloyd. Lloyd started his career with the 49ers and was a big disappointment. Personall I say the Broncos can keep Lloyd, once Braylon Edwards comes back the 49ers will not need Lloyd. This is not a team that needs 3 WRs, the strength of the offense is the 21 personnel with 2 Tightends on the field.
