Before today, there were two 49ers players who had not yet to sign their contracts, franchise player Dashon Goldson and rookie A.J. Jenkins. With the signing of first round draft pick A.J. Jenkins, the 49ers now only have Goldson left to sign to a contract.

The signing was announced on Wednesday by the 49ers and the contract is a four-year deal. The financials of the deal were not disclosed at the time of this posting. The 49ers have now signed all of their 2012 draft picks.

This is a great thing for Jenkins, who has been struggling at minicamps this offseason, because he no longer has his contract to distract him from preparing for the upcoming season. Jenkins still has a long way to go to crack the starting lineup; however, he will have an opportunity at training camp to show he is better than the receiver we have seen at the offseason minicamps.

In case you forgot, here is a short bio on Jenkins from 49ers.com:

Jenkins (6-0, 192), was the 49ers first round selection (30th overall) in this year’s draft out of the University of Illinois. He played in 46 games (26 starts) for the Fighting Illini and ranks third in school history with 167 career receptions for 2,432 yards and 19 touchdowns. The three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree also added 33 kickoff returns for 773 yards and one touchdown.

In 2011, Jenkins played in 13 games (12 starts) and tallied 90 catches for 1,276 yards and eight touchdowns. He is just the second player in school history to register 90 receptions in a season, and his 1,276 receiving yards were the second-highest single-season total in school history. The First-Team All-Big Ten and honorable-mention All-America honoree led the Conference with an average of 6.92 receptions per game.

Jenkins, a 22-year old native of Jacksonville, FL, attended Terry Parker High School. As a senior, he registered 41 receptions for 515 yards and four touchdowns, while adding 40 carries for 251 yards.

In the last eight seasons 49ers punter Andy Lee has kicked every punt, held every field goal and extra-point attempt in the regular season and playoffs. Lee was drafted out of the sixth-round in 2004 and since then he has become one of the best punters in the NFL.

In the 128-games Lee has played for the 49ers he holds the team record in punts downed inside the 20-yard line (209), gross average (45.7 yards) and net average (38.9 yard). Lee, a three-time Pro Bowl and All-Pro selection, was rewarded for his efforts with a six-year contract extension. The 49ers punter was in the last year of his contract.

Andy Lee:

They did a good job signing other guys to just keep this team intact so we can make a run at the Super Bowl (this season). It makes me feel really good and makes me feel respected by this team and organization.

During the 49ers decade of decline in the 2000’s, Lee was at times the best player on the roster and helped an anemic offense make up for constant three-and-outs with deep punts inside opponents territory. Signing Lee to a long-term contract is smart and a no-brainer. The move keeps Lee with the 49ers through 2018.

The terms of the deal was not released, however, Lee’s contract is expected to make him one of the highest-paid punters in the NFL.

The busy week for 49ers GM Trent Baalke and the front office continues with the announcement that former Giants WR Mario Manningham will visit the team on Thursday. The 49ers also recently announced cornerback Carlos Rogers agreed to a four-year, $31.3 million contact keeping the team’s stout defense intact from last season.

After the Randy Moss signing, I thought nothing else could surprise me. Then, the 49ers said they will bring in Manningham for a workout from them hated NY Giants. Manningham may have broken the hearts of the 49ers Faithful, but after watching his amazing catch against the Patriots in the Super Bowl, I say sign him!

Signing Manningham will be easier said than done as the Dolphins and Bills are also interested in his services, and he could demand a big contract the 49ers are not willing to pay. The receiver has a lot of upside. He is only 25 years old, stands 6 feet tall and would be a great compliment to Moss and Michael Crabtree in the receiving corps. He is not a deep threat but could fit in well as the No. 3 receiver like he was in New York.

Manningham did miss four games in 2011 because of a knee injury but still caught 39 passes for 523 yards and four touchdowns. Here are the rest of Manningham’s stats from 2008-2010:

2008: 4 rec, 26 yards, 0 TD

2009: 57 rec, 822 yards, 5 TD’s

2010: 60 rec, 944 yards, 9 TD’s

Other Free Agent Signings By The 49ers

CB Perrish Cox (2 years, $1.02 million): In one week the 49ers signed two players who have troubled pasts and were out of the NFL last season. In addition to Moss, the 49ers signed Cox who is cornerback that was drafted by the Broncos in 2010. However he was released after his first season in the NFL because of sexual assault charges leveled against him. Cox was acquitted of those charges earlier this month.

Sounds like Jim Harbaugh could have his hands full this season but something tells me the coach relishes situations like this. Taking players other teams have casted off for whatever reason and turning them into Pro Bowlers. See, examples: Alex Smith, and hopefully, Randy Moss.

LB Larry Grant (1 year, $1.26 million): The way Grant played while Patrick Willis was out was more than enough to re-sign the linebacker. Grant had 32 tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble last season.

LS Brian Pontbriand (1 year, $826,000): Even though the 49ers have Pro Bowl long snapper Brian Jennings, they signed Pontbriand.

CB Tramaine Brock (1 year, $540,000)

DT Will Tukuafu (2 years, $1.02 million)

WR Brett Swain

LB Tavares Gooden

49ers Players Signed By Other Teams

WR Joshua Morgan (Redskins): It’s sad to see Morgan sign with another team and I thought the 49ers would bring him back even after the Moss signing. But signing Moss may have been a signal to Morgan he was not wanted back in San Francisco. He has a bright future if he can stay healthy.

LB Blake Costanzo (Bears): Costanzo signing with the Bears surprised me because of how well he played on special teams last season. He was great at blocking and tackling on returns.
