Apparently the 49ers aren’t interested in signing free agent wide receiver Terrell Owens after all. Owens who started his career in 1996 with the 49ers before he forced his way out of town in a trade to the Eagles. 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday that he didn’t even know if the 49ers were sending a representative to Owens workout in California today, indicating that the 49er brass has zero interest in him.

This comes as good news to me, Owens has ruined his opportunity everywhere he has gone and the risk would far outweigh the reward of a Owens return to San Francisco. Still though this will disappoint some 49er fans, I was surprised at the results in our recent poll where I asked simply would you like to see TO return to the Red and Gold to which exactly 41% of NinerNoise voters responded both yes and no.

*UPDATE* Zero teams, I repeat zero teams showed up for the TO work out today in Los Angeles today. The media came out in full force and the entire session in which Owens ran around and did agility drills and caught some footballs was filmed. Agent Drew Rosenhaus struck out big here, how can you publically accounce a workout for your client without securing at least 1 team’s promise to show up and evaluate him? The first thought I had when hearing of the news today was that this felt like the Barry Bonds situation. Nobody signed him despite the fact that he publically stated he wanted to play for 2 years after his last season with the Giants. ESPNs Jon Clayton said today on ESPN radio that he gave it between a 15-20% chance Owens would ever get signed by any team this season. If you ask me this is just another case of what goes around comes around, oh and one last cheap shot on my way if you haven’t heard TO is broke so he needs a job in the NFL desperately. This may be the worst day TO has had in a long time, in contrast it was the best day I’ve had since the 49ers last victory, so long TO!
Page 2: My message to those who responded yes they want TO back in SF
