The San Francisco 49ers endured a difficult lost to the New York Giants. The lost has many people wondering if the Niners are still an elite team in the NFL. I believe they still are. The lost against the Minnesota Vikings was a game where the Niners were out played. The time of possession was controlled by Minnesota which made it difficult for the Niners to get a rhythm on offense. The game this past Sunday was just a case where everything went wrong for the Niners.

It started on the opening drive when pro bowl kicker David Akers missed a very makeable field goal and would missed another one just before halftime. If both those field goals go through the halftime score becomes 10-9 but instead the score was 10-3. The quarter that was truly a disaster was third. Everything went wrong for the Niners in the quarter.

It started with a kickoff return by the Giants that put them near the Niners thirty yard line. Two awful Alex Smith interceptions would occur which ended in the Giants having great field position and scoring on both possessions. Later in the quarter with the Niners trailing 17-3, CB Carlos Rogers had an interception hit him right in the hands with nothing but green in front of him. The potential pick six could have been a turning point for the Niners, would have made the score only 17-10 instead of 20-3.

Niners could not catch a break in the game and played very sloppy while the Giants were playing mistake free football and taking advantage of their opportunities. Again I still truly believe the Niners are an elite football team, especially if they can get a victory over the Seattle Seahawks. The Hawks are a very good team with wins over the Green Bay Packers (kind of) and just recently the New England Patriots. It’s a big game for the Niners to get a game lead on the Hawks in the NFC West. I predict a Niner victory 23-20 and a great way to bounce back versus a strong opponent.

The San Francisco 49ers demolished the Buffalo Bills, but it might have came at a price. QB Alex Smith had one of his best games as a pro throwing over three hundred yards and three scores, then it was reported that Alex sprained the middle finger of his throwing hand. At the moment head coach Jim Harbaugh has admitted that the injury is a concern. Alex is expected to start on Sunday, the swelling on his middle finger should do down considerably. The question on many Niner fans mind is will the injury effect the way Alex throws the ball versus the New York Giants?

Week six is a game that many of the Niner Faithful have had circled ever since the schedule was made public. The Giants are coming to town and the only problem is the condition of Alex’s middle finger. I am hoping it will not be a problem; one factor to keep in mind is the adrenaline will be high during such a marquee game. Even if Alex’s finger is not at 100%, the Niner offense has shown to be very versatile and should have no problems moving the ball on the Giants.

Lastly If Alex cannot finish the game due to his injury; I have lots of faith in backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick. He has looked great in the past two, rushing for a touchdown in each game. The only concern about Kaepernick is that we have not seen him throw the ball too much, but from what I have seen he looks to have an accuarate arm. I do not see Giants beating the Niners on Sunday. San Francisco will dictate the pace of the game and win 27-17.

Niner nation let me know what you think. Is the injury a big deal? Do you agree with the prediction? Leave comments

After a defeat to the Minnesota Vikings, the San Francisco 49ers will look to bounce back versus the New York Jets. I have three three keys to success for the Niners if they expect to leave New York with a victory.

Ball Control

This is what the Niners are known for……controlling time of possession. The Vikings flipped the script on the Niners as they were the ones to keep the ball for the majority of the game. Ball control will be vital for the Niners, when they have had the ball they have done a great job in mixing up the play call and keeping the defense off balance.

On defense the Niners must stop the Jets on third and longs, something they were not able to do against the Vikings. If the defense does their job, the offense will have more chances to control the clock.

CB Darrelle Revis

Revis is out for the season……not much else to say. The lost of arguably the best cornerback in the league is a huge blow for that Jets defense that is highly dependent on Revis. I believe the Jets will struggle without Revis and expect the Niners to test the secondary. I predict that WR Randy Moss will catch his first bomb for a touchdown.

RB Frank Gore

Gore has been playing great thus far this season, a big reason being that the Niners have been using the passing game to open up the running game. Also the offensive line has played terrific and has open gaping holes for Gore to run through. With a healthy dose of Gore the Niners will be able to set play action and take advantage of the Revis less secondary.

Frank Is looking to have a bounce back game after having a subpar game last week and also having a costly fumble. If Frank is running wild on the Jets defense, then expect the offense to have a big day in New York.

I like the match up against the Jets. Looks like it might be a defensive struggle for the most part of the game. Eventually I see the Niners winning the game 19-9 and going back home with a 3-1 record. GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
