Wash, rinse and repeat has been the common theme for the San Francisco 49ers in recent weeks.

The Niners get off to a decent start, only to fall flat and see an early lead crumble into a second-half meltdown. And the NFL’s worst run defense only continues to get poorer.

Such is the case in the aftermath of San Francisco’s 34-17 Week 7 loss to the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Niner Noise looks at the good, bad and ugly from the 49ers’ efforts each and every week. And seemingly, each week is little more than a repeat of previous weeks’ performances. It’s been a troubling trend for a while now.

The defense has been a prime issue. Despite various changes and draft picks made to address this side of the ball during the offseason, the 49ers still find themselves gouged by opponents’ rushing attacks.

Defensive coordinator Jim O’Neil’s scheme remains suspect, although head coach Chip Kelly (h/t Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area) reiterated there would be no staff changes with the Niners’ Week 8 bye hitting the calendar.

It’s easy to bet San Francisco’s run defense will be included here, and not within what was good.

So let’s try to muscle through this. It won’t be fun.
