The 2016 NFL preseason is coming to a close, and the San Francisco 49ers are slated to take on the San Diego Chargers in the final exhibition bout.

Week 3 of the preseason rarely feels or looks like a regular-season game. The majority of starters have been set on most rosters, and this final bout is usually reserved for players looking to round out the final 53-man roster.

Currently, the 49ers roster stands at 75 players. This game will provide the last, best analysis for which guys make the cut.

While the game may be sloppy and relatively uninteresting — who enjoys watching second- and third-string players battle it out — other storylines are going to be on the table for San Francisco.

Of course, we’re talking about embattled quarterback Colin Kaepernick. And the discussion goes beyond his recent protest of the national anthem.

Kap’s competition for the No. 1 QB job is likely over. All signs point to him losing that. But what about even making the roster? That’s another question altogether.

So let’s break down this final preseason contest for San Francisco and get ourselves excited for games which actually count.
