The 2016 San Francisco 49ers enter training camp with more than a few questions about how their roster will shape up. Niner Noise takes a pre-camp look at what the starting positions on the 53-man roster will look like in the upcoming regular season.

The San Francisco 49ers of 2016 won’t look anything like the dominant teams from earlier in the decade.

OK, we know this already. The Niners have gone through a number of dramatic changes since the team reached three-consecutive NFC Championships in the not-so-distant past.

But where this matters now is training camp.

A few years ago, the 49ers only had a handful of positions up for grabs. Entering this season, head coach Chip Kelly and Co. will be tasked with manning a roster comprised of young, questionable talent. There are more than just a couple of spots with question marks attached to them.

With camp set to begin on July 30, Niner Noise makes an attempt to predict a maximum-two-deep depth chart for each position on San Francisco’s 53-man roster. The 49ers will have to cut their current crop of 90 players at the end of the preseason so, needless to say, training camp and the Niners’ series of exhibition games will go a long way in determining whether or not these predictions stand true.

As stated, we won’t go any further than two players for each position in (largely) standard offensive and defensive formations. But we will break down each starting spot in depth where applicable.

Let’s kick things off with special teams.
