The San Francisco 49ers roster will stand at 90 players following the conclusion of the 2016 NFL Draft. The number will eventually be cut down to 53, which means some notable players might be on the roster bubble during training camp.

NFL teams are allowed to carry 90 players on their respective rosters through organized team activities (OTAs), training camp and the first three weeks of the preseason. For the San Francisco 49ers, determining which players make the 53-man roster will be at the heart of transforming a team which finished with a lowly 5-11 mark a year ago.

Rosters shift and change on a consistent basis. It’s one of the primary reasons behind all the fluctuation within the NFL and can attribute to the statistical makeup and success/failure of any team.

For the 49ers, amidst a complete rebuild, upgrades and overhauls will be a major part of this process. Remember, San Francisco was a team that finished at, or near the bottom of, nearly every major offensive and defensive category in 2015.

Younger, cheaper and up-and-coming players push out aging, expensive veterans all the time. And developing players, who may have never reached full potential, can also be replaced as needed.

All the offseason activities leading up to the regular season will go a long way in determining who stays and goes.

For now, let’s take a look at 10 49ers who may have been pushed to the roster bubble in 2016 following the Niners’ actions in the 2016 NFL Draft.
