We are less than 48 hours away from the first preseason game for the San Francisco 49ers, and already there is a buzz in the air.
Not only is the first time that the Harbaugh brothers will meet face-to-face on the field since Super Bowl 47, but it also marks the debut of several new 49ers, including wide receivers Brandon Lloyd and Stevie Johnson, quarterback Blaine Gabbert, cornerback Chris Cook, and safety Antoine Bethea.
Last year, Colin Kaepernick and most of the starters played a single series before exiting, and it’s highly likely we’ll see the same thing happen on Thursday.
The last time we saw San Francisco on the football field, they were walking away from a hard fought defeat against Seattle, a game in which a Kaepernick pass six inches farther into the end zone might have resulted in a different outcome.
Two weeks into training camp and this 49er team is already beat up, minus Kendall Hunter and Glenn Dorsey for the season, however this team has depth and has been built to win a Super Bowl.
And how ironic that their 2014 Super Bowl run begins against the team that cost them a Super Bowl two years ago, the Baltimore Ravens.
Yes it’s a preseason game, but either way, football is back, and so are the 49ers, and it’s about time.
